What is a mala bracelet?
A traditional mala is a necklace of 108 beads that slide through your fingers one by one while you meditate or repeat a mantra. A mala bracelet is the shorter version: you wear it on your wrist, every day and without effort. Many people wear it as a quiet reminder of an intention they have set, every time they glance at their wrist. Looking for a full mala with 108 beads instead? Then take a look at our mala necklaces.
Rudraksha, rudrani and gemstones
Most of our bracelets are made of rudraksha, the seeds of the rudraksha tree. Some are made of rudrani: also seeds, with properties similar to rudraksha. Gemstones, gold or silver are often added. How many beads a bracelet has depends on their size: the smaller the beads, the more it takes to make a bracelet. You can read what the individual stones and seeds mean on our page about the meaning of gemstones.
Handmade in Bali, fairly produced
All mala bracelets are made in our partner workshop Aum in Bali, always by the same team. The rudraksha come from sustainable plantations on Bali and Java, and every bead is cleaned by hand. The people who work with us receive a fair wage and also share in 10% of Aum’s profits. Read more in our article about rudraksha.
Mala Spirit has been around since 2012. Our malas have been featured in Happinez, Marie Claire and Yoga Journal, among others – read more on our page Mala Spirit in the media.
Wearing and care
Your mala bracelet is strung on durable elastic, so you simply slip it over your hand. To keep the elastic and beads beautiful for a long time, take the bracelet off before you shower, swim or go to sleep. You can rub rudraksha with a little almond, coconut or sesame oil from time to time. You’ll find all tips in how to take care of a mala.
Frequently asked questions about mala bracelets
Are the mala bracelets for women and men?
Yes. Our mala bracelets are made for women and men.
What does a mala bracelet mean?
That depends mainly on the stones and seeds it is made of, and on the intention with which you wear it. Each bracelet lists the stones it contains.
Are the rudraksha genuine?
Yes. With rudraksha, what matters most is where the bead comes from – no test can replace that. Our rudraksha come from sustainable plantations on Bali and Java and are processed in our partner workshop in Bali.
Can I shower or swim with the bracelet?
Better not. Soap, chlorine and long exposure to water dry out the beads and weaken the elastic. A brief rinse when cleaning is no problem.
